We’ve all been into different kinds of restaurants and other fine dining establishments in our lives. Different foods, variety of tastes and some has the common looks. It is definitely not an easy task for a restaurant to add their own distinctive brand on their foods but the Skillet Japanese Café and Bistro just pulled it off on a higher level – nailed it to be exact!
The Skillet Japanese Café and Bistro launched last March 2016 at Mandaue. A restaurant of distinctiveness in every detail – from the place to the food to the beverages- everything just tastes so good. A Japanese restaurant that offers European foods with a Japanese twist. Yes, that’s how unique they are in terms of food.
I was with Mr. Carlo Olano of Kalami Cebu, Jomar Lipon of Laaganko.com, Ms. Mars Espera, the reigning Ms. Cebu Gabriele Raine Baljak and the Owner herself, Ms. Kate Tiffany Yu.
The place is very cozy. When you get inside, you will immediately notice the paintings on the wall. It is not just an ordinary painting. It was painted by Aito Kitazaki, a Japanese artist who is also a friend of the Chef, Mr. Masaki Tsuji. Should I say the meaning of the painting? You better find it out for yourself and be amazed just like what I have felt when I discovered the meaning..

Aside from the onion leaves, what I like about this food is that it tastes like an egg omelet. I am not a fan of fish foods because I hate small bones but this food made me ate this without hassle because it’s boneless and it does not taste like a fish.
Stewed Hamburg Steak
It tastes like a steak, but there’s something within this food that made it a special steak. It doesn’t taste that much like the common steak we always see on restaurants and it has a Japan-like feels. The Japanese twist made it stand out from the rest.
I am not a fan of crab dishes because I don’t like the hassle of getting the meat inside the crab, although crab meat is delicious but the hassle is just a no-no for me. This one is different, the crab you see is considered just a design, I guess. All the crab meat is already mixed with the spaghetti, so there’s no hassle in eating it. It smells so good and I ate it with pride.
Sweet Potato Chips
Yes, it doesn’t taste sweet at first because it taste a bit bitter but the time it slowly crashes and swallowed, there is actually an after-taste – the sweet flavor will then be felt in your mouth. I don’t know what sorcery it is but I was amazed, it was indeed delicious. I realized how the bitter + sweet charisma would feel that good in my throat.
The triangular chips, or I am not sure how it is called, or it might be the tortilla is unexplainable. I haven’t tasted this kind of flavor to me. And it feels so good with the tongue. The veggies are what I’m up to because veggies are love.
Salmon with Dashi Soup
Every part of it is very savoring. The aroma of the soup hits hard until the bones. It satisfies every part of your taste buds. Perfect combination, indeed.
This is the last dish I ate before the dessert. I was captivated by the mix of the raw and colorful vegetables and fruits.
Dew Droplet Cake
Finally, after months of waiting and attempted to try the dessert, I was able to taste this legendary dessert. Every swallow feels so refreshing. Plus the powder that’s somehow I can personally say like a “polvoron” but is way more delicious than that. I never thought that the jelly ha a taste. I was expecting it to taste like water. But it went out of my expectations.
In line with the Dew Droplet Cake, This is somehow I can call Skillet’s version of halo-halo. This is also made with a jelly strips with the same texture with the Dew Droplet Cake. This is also the most challenging dessert I have tried in my entire life. If you order this one, be sure to be prepared with the challenge – no spoon and fork, just pure chopsticks. Good luck! Haha!
